A System for Optimal Design of Pressure Constrained Branched Piped Water Networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
Rural water networks in the developing world are typically branched networks with a single water source. The main design decision to be made for such networks is the choice of pipe diameters from a discrete set of commercially available pipe diameters. Larger the pipe diameters, better the service (pressure), but higher is the capital cost. In general, each link (connection between two nodes) in the network can consist of several pipe segments of differing diameters. For such networks, existing design tools solve the constrained-optimization problem heuristically [1] [2]. In [3], an ILP formulation is proposed for the special case of one pipe diameter per link. This means that currently one can either get an optimal solution for the special case of one piped segment per link or get a non-optimal solution for the general case of multiple pipe segments per link. In this work, we come up with a model that solves the general formulation while still maintaining optimality. Our model has an LP formulation. It not only manages to optimally solve the general case, it also has a runtime performance that is better than both the heuristic approach to the general problem as well as the optimal approach to the specific problem (one pipe per link). To aid the designers of piped water networks, we have developed an optimization system called JalTantra that implements this model. It also has GIS functionality integrated for ease of providing network details. It is publicly available at http://www.cse.iitb.ac.in/jaltantra/ . © 2016 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd. متن کاملOptimal Control Pressure for Leakage Minimization in Water Distribution Systems Using Imperialist Competitive Algorithm
One of the key factors affecting leakage in water distribution systems is network pressure management by putting Pressure Reduce Valves (PRV) in the flow path and optimal regulation of these vales in water networks. This study aimed at investigating optimal pressure management problems so as to minimize leakage in water distribution networks. To do so, an approach was proposed for both optimal ...
متن کاملConstrained Multi-Objective Optimization Problems in Mechanical Engineering Design Using Bees Algorithm
Many real-world search and optimization problems involve inequality and/or equality constraints and are thus posed as constrained optimization problems. In trying to solve constrained optimization problems using classical optimization methods, this paper presents a Multi-Objective Bees Algorithm (MOBA) for solving the multi-objective optimal of mechanical engineering problems design. In the pre...

Background: Hypertension is the third risk factor for the cardiovascular diseases. This study investigated the effects of mineral water from Damavand spring on the blood pressure and serum lipid profiles in men with hypertension. Methods: In this study 41 hypertensive men were randomly assigned to Damavand mineral water (DM) and Tehran water groups (TW). The DM and TW received 1.5-liter bottle ...

Deteriorating water treatment facilities and distribution systems pose a significant public health threat, particularly in republics of the former Soviet Union. Interventions to decrease the disease burden associated with these water systems range from upgrading distribution networks to installing reverse osmosis technology. To provide insight into this decision process, we conducted a randomiz...
